Central Oregon Mediation, a nonprofit community conflict resolution center,  is offering the 32 hour Basic Mediation Training Course.  

C.O.M. provides mediation services to Crook, Deschutes and Jefferson Counties. 

The Training will be held Thursday, November 12, Friday, November 13, Saturday, November 14 and Sunday, November 15, 2009. ( Four 8 hour days)

The class is limited to 24 participants

 

What is Basic Mediation Training?

 

This 32 hour training is a state recognized professional qualification for mediators.  You will learn communication skills, effective negotiation, mediation theory and practice from a highly skilled trainer.  Lots of interactive exercises and mediation practice will be included.  

 

Students will have a solid understanding of the causes of conflict;  how disputes affect lives;  mediation techniques;  the role of the mediator;  the ethics of mediation;  the “business” of mediation; cross-cultural considerations; and policies and procedures specific to Central Oregon Mediation.

 

Who Should Apply?  Anyone interested in learning advanced mediation skills or enhancing their career. Those applying as volunteers, must be able to commit to volunteer service as a community mediator for Central Oregon Mediation a minimum of 8-12 x per year.

Fee for Training:  Enrollees able to dedicate service as a volunteer mediator to Central Oregon Mediation can apply for a scholarship for the training of $385.  They will be responsible for $65 fee for training material.    Participants, not interested in volunteer positions will be offered the training for $450.
