Who : Community Solutions of Central Oregon is a nonprofit organization serving the dispute resolution needs of communities in the Crook, Deschutes, and Jefferson tri-county region. We help people have difficult conversations by providing a wide-range of mediation, facilitation, and education programs recognized for their high-quality, low-cost, and positive impact.
What: Our Basic Mediation Training (BMT) course incorporates aspects of mediation models and standards practiced by Oregon-based community dispute resolution centers (CDRC), all of which have related programs in line with Oregon Revised Statute (ORS) 36. Where: The BMT course is structured in two parts. Part 1 is web-based with course content provided via a Student Portal on our website. This part has been developed for online self-study. Part 2 is a practicum with course content provided via instruction at the Becky Johnson Community Center (BJCC), located at 412 SW 8th Street, Redmond OR, 97756. This part has been developed to include classroom instruction, group discussions, and role play settings. For more information visit BJCC online.
When: Part 1. Enrollment date a Friday, March 24, 2017 online self-study. Part 2. Friday a Sunday, March 31 a April 2, 2017 from 8:30 AM a 4:30 PM daily at BJCC; includes a continental breakfast on-site each morning and a one hour lunch break daily.
Why: Mediators are essential contributors to helping people communicate effectively during lifeas more difficult moments. Serving as neutral third parties, mediators help individuals, businesses, and communities identify needs and craft solutions acceptable to all involved.
- Our lead trainer is Mr. James (Jim) Ruff , with 10 + years of experience handling 350 + mediation related cases in Oregon. Jim is the former President of Oppenheimer Funds Distributors, Inc. and has served as an Arbitrator for the Financial Industry Regulating Authority (FINRA). He is also the former Vice President for the Community Solutions Board of Directors from 2013-2016.
- Cost to attend is $650.00 per person; $100 non-refundable enrollment fee. The remaining balance is due in full no later than Friday, March 24, 2017; all forms of payment accepted.
- Applications accepted until 16 attendees are enrolled and confirmed as paid in full.
- Rebates of $325.00 are available a thatas half the enrollment fee - to those who successfully complete training and commit to a one year volunteer term of service with Community Solutions.
